Aesculus hippocastanum MT

Description

The action of Aesculus hippocastanum MT is most marked on the lower bowel, producing engorged haemorrhoidal veins, with characteristic backache, with absence of actual constipation. Much pain but little bleeding. It is also used in torpor and congestion of the liver and portal system, with constipation. Its fruit and barks are antiperiodic. The extract of the leaves is used in whooping cough. Research reports indicate its value in treatment of circulatory venous disturbances. According to an extensive overview of clinical trials of aescin, the active ingredient of this drug, has been shown to be effective in double-blind and other controlled research, supporting its use for venous problems. The positive effect results in part to strengthen capillaries, which leads to a reduction in swelling. There have been research reports from a double-blind trial confirming its effect to reduce symptoms of haemorrhoids.
