ASAFOETIDA

Asafoetida is a valuable homoeopathic medicine prepared from the gum resin of Narthex asafoetida, a member of the Umbelliferae family. It is especially suited to hysterical and hypochondriacal patients, and has a prominent action on the gastrointestinal tract, bones, and nervous system. It is notable for conditions involving reverse peristalsis, flatulence, ulcerations, and bone caries, particularly in syphilitic constitutions. Asafoetida also exhibits strong anti-spasmodic action and is helpful in sensory hypersensitivities, nightly boring pains, and offensive discharges.
